FTTX began to develop vigorously in the 21st century. Before that, it was in a low-speed development stage. Since entering the 21st century, the development of FTTX has been amazing compared to other broadband access methods. As can be seen from the above figure, although the current number of DSL access methods is far greater than that of other broadband access methods, the development rate of FTTX is much faster than that of other broadband access methods. Especially compared to DSL, the growth rate is several times., even dozens of times. By the end of 2007, according to the statistics of IEEE communications companies, the number of FTTX users worldwide has reached 29 million, and FTTX in 2005-2012 will accelerate development, as shown in the figure below.

According to the report on the "Light Wave Communications" website, the global broadband statistical survey data published by Point Topic, an international research institute, shows that. The quarterly growth rate of the world's FTTX users reached 12.6 <UNK>. In Asia Pacific and North America, quarterly growth rates were above 20.
