FTTX broadband optical access network uses optical fiber medium to replace part or whole traditional metal wire medium. It extends optical fiber from local end to user end, deploys ONU to flexible point (FP) and distribution point (DP) of traditional access network, and finally reaches user equipment or user network. In the process of broadband and optical fibrization, FTTX access network is affected by customer group service demand, network resources of operators, service types, functions and performance supported by various bearer technologies on optical fibers, and evolution strategies. Broadband optical access network has different application models according to the location of ONU, such as FTTCab, FTTB, FTTC, FTTH and so on. FTTX is a general term for various application types of broadband optical access network, and "X" has many variations, such as FTTB, FTTCab, FTTC, FTTD, FTTH, FTTP, FTTO and FTTu.
