Is a wireless router better to choose single frequencyor dual frequency?

- Aug 23, 2019-

The quality of wireless router is mainly distinguished between single-frequency and multi-frequency, multi-frequency has strong ability to penetrate obstacles, and the signal is relatively stable. Wireless coverage in the building radius of about 20 meters, can only pass through a wall, two walls no signal. So look at the pattern of the house, we suggest to buy multi-frequency, so that the signal intensity is better, the network speed will be greatly affected when the signal intensity is weak, and if the wireless networks of the same frequency band overlap with each other, it may cause interference between the signals.

As the name implies, dual-band mainly refers to two kinds of wireless bands: 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ. Compared with our ordinary router, there are more 5 G bands. Why increase 5 G band? Because the general router design is 2.4 GHZ.

2.4 GHz is a wireless band that is widely used worldwide. And the use of this frequency band will not be limited, all kinds of wireless products around the world can use this frequency band. Because of this characteristic, most wireless products such as wireless routers work in this band. Its overall bandwidth, due to other wireless bands, makes the overall data transmission rate improved, and its transmission distance is relatively long. With the development of technology, manufacturers can make 2.4 GHz wireless products more compact and reduce power consumption. Take wireless mouse for example, most of the wireless mouse on the market now uses 2.4 G band.

So the problem is that there are wireless keyboards, wireless headphones, Bluetooth devices running in the 2.4 GHz band, which makes this band very crowded. Moreover, it is equivalent to a good road, but there are too many cars to walk, and it begins to be seriously congested. So when we use the wireless router working in 2.4 GHz band, we will find that there are often problems such as poor wireless signal, network carton, frequent dropouts and so on. There are many household appliances in use will produce 2.4 GH interference, refrigerators, computers, microwave ovens, rice cookers and so on, microwave ovens are undoubtedly the most serious interference to wireless signals, so in the router placement, we should try to avoid all kinds of household appliances.

The above is just one aspect, and there is a serious problem. Now almost every router is on 2,4 G band. When we open the mobile phone to search the wireless network, we will find that there are many wireless network signals around, and these signals will interfere with each other. There is a channel selection option in the wireless router (usually in automatic mode, which may not be noticed by many people). There are 13 channels in 2.4 G band. Because of its own characteristics, the signals of one channel will interfere with the signals of five adjacent channels. In Lilun state, only 1, 7 and 13 channels will not interfere with each other, but they will not interfere with each other. The surrounding signals are not necessarily on these three channels. As far as the current situation is concerned, it is almost impossible for us to find non-interference channels in the 2.4 G band. So the signals in the same area will interfere with each other. Generally speaking, it is difficult for us to get a perfect experience in 2.4 G band. At this time, if you choose the 5.GHZ band mode, it will effectively avoid the interference of these bands, and the wireless signal will be transmitted farther accordingly. In the family, except for the dual-band router, almost nothing else will send 5G signals. In the 5GHz band, there are 22 non-interference channels working, which greatly exceed 2.4 GHHz. No interference with the number of channels. Like a three-lane highway and a 22-lane highway, it's self-evident which one is more unimpeded. Moreover, the 5G band generally uses 111AC technology, which supports higher bandwidth. At present, the routers we see above Gigabit are dual-band routers. We can get a more perfect wireless network experience in 5G band.

The answer is no doubt: although dual-band routers are usually more expensive, they are definitely better than single-band (2.4 GHz) routers. In terms of performance, dual-band routers are much stronger, signal is more stable, coverage is wider and penetration is stronger.
