According to the trend of global PON product investment, 2.5GPON OLT/ONU will remain the most important product in the global PON market in the next three years, but it will begin to weaken year by year. 10GPON OLT/ONU will begin to usher in the time window of rapid outbreak, and the annual compound growth rate is expected to reach more than 50%. This will also lead to increasingly fierce market competition, PON optical module product prices will also show an avalanche decline.
According to Dai Qiwei, power budget is one of the main problems facing optical modules at present. Although SOA can be used to amplify power, Burst mode EDFA can be used to amplify power, and FEC or built-in DSP can be strengthened to improve power budget, it also brings many problems such as complex process, calculation, additional equipment, power consumption, and high price. This also means that the next generation of PON products have higher and more requirements for optical devices.
